Niger, Samuel (Charney, Samuel)
(1883-1955)
   American Yiddish literary critic. He was born in Russia, and began his career contributing to various Russian literary magazines. In 1909 he went to Berlin; several months later he edited a Yiddish monthly, Di yidishe velt, in Vilna. In 1919 he emigrated to the US, where he became literary editor of Der tog. His studies of Yiddish literature appeared in various volumes.
